Holly Fuck... i want this...
The 2010 Honda Shadow, at only 750cc looks extremely good, and given the size of the engine it should be somewhat enough to cover extra and intra urban areas.
As mentioned in another entry, the weather down here is fair all year long, and even when it rains (mostly) its really not that bad.
Anyway, i think this bike could cover what i'm looking for right now.
-low fuel cost -zero parking cost -traffic saver
I used to own a Vento 150cc, it was very small, but it was awesome for going to and fro in the city. But i really missed on doing some adventuring of my own, specially because of the very small engine size.
I think i can make the down payment come december and fuck myself in the ass for 2 years with a loan. Yeah, that will be nice.

Mon, 19 Oct 2009 15:40:24 GMT Regarding Local Weather |
Over time I've thought about what necessity does having a journal cover. None really, but it does feel good to gloat or vent and maybe get feedback from the community, others might think you are some kind of subversive hooligan looking to start a fight, maybe the next world wide conflict; None of that, as folks who know me could mention... i am a good guy, multiple felonies perhaps, but a good person.
Before my experience in the Great European Jungle, i thought we had a winter, such is not the case, i can see why.
Temperature really never goes bellow 0 (Celsius), the only places that do get frost are above certain height, and the locals keep sheep close for their wool, or so they say. And there's plenty of palm trees; everywhere you look there is a conveniently placed palm tree that reminds us this is a tropical area. Unlike other countries, going to a nice sunny (mostly) beach just takes about 20 bucks worth of gas, and a couple hours of time.
Of course with the local twitter populace might disagree, which i also did, repeatedly... even as far as trying to convince my friends in England that it got so cold here that you'd feel one of your limbs might snap off your body and shatter on the floor.
Such is not the case. Norwegians have a good saying, There is no bad weather, only non-optimal clothing.
I couldn't agree more, polyester and cotton cloths are the norm in the area, fleece jackets are rare, lots of denim, wool underwear is laughed upon, or an alternative method to kill your sperm count. It is, if you incline, an alternative to world of warcraft's weppenz, gain experience by introducing a new warm material, and wearing it without doing yourself any physical harm.
I see now the severity of winter in a region is directly proportionate to how much units of wool trousers you have in your collection. Guatemalans that do have those, constitute less than 0.000000001% of the total populace, my best guess is that i am not the only crazy person to hold a memento of a nordic country in the form of woolen underwear.
So back on the topic, it's not cold, it is just slightly less warm.
One day i was chatting with niteskunk, and him and some friends where going to buy some winter clothing... with a hint of nostalgia after having my very first white Christmas almost a year ago, yet with an even bigger feeling of... belonging... weird that... i was sick enough to mention "I need to buy more Hawaiian shirts".
There is no Christmas without snow, agreed. But outside the geographical differences, it is special in it's own way. Something completely different to enjoy the end of the year celebrations at a slightly less warm weather, wearing a red Hawaiian shirt with white flower decals, sipping on brightly colored icy drinks with little umbrellas on them; and basking in the glow of the equatorial sun light, and maybe catch heat stroke.
Long overdue update, to those who read, i still exist, sorry if i did disappoint ;)

While the immigration people clear whatever they need to clear in order for me to work over there, i have to wait, its a game i dont' like, but what can you do?
Spend time with the family :)
i'll think up a more substancial post.
But all is well over here, we're all in good spirits, and waiting for a cooler winter :)

I don't even know why I'm wasting bandwidth talking about it...
It's just a waste of time.
I don't feel enraged like i used to but rather... sad, and depressed. And fearful of knowing that people will look at me funny if i mentioned i watched that shit.
This is what it must feel like after discussing with your best friend that you are afraid of spiders and some dude dressed as spider man rapes your mom, on your birthday... next to the cake.
It's almost 2am, and i feel dirty, i don't think i will catch any shut eye tonight. Thank you Hollywood, really, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have terrible images embedded in my brain about Hollywood, like HUGE BLUE PENIS The MOVIELOL... i mean watchmen, and other... things.
There's no crisis, look at the money being spewed at this crock of shit called "industry". And they expect people to pay for *that* crap?
Terrible.
I quit.
wait... just a handful for the road...
oh what luck, there's a skittle stuck on my beard... omnomnomnomnom... oh yeah! |

Mon, 06 Apr 2009 09:33:46 GMT Better get used to it.... |
Had a yucky weekend... spent most of Saturday asleep or under the influence of drugs. Sunday was bearable, mostly because i was catching up with Galactica. Good TV Series btw.
So this is spring huh... dry air, runny noses, pollen, gushing nosebleeds, a bit cold during mornings, shrinking ice caps... retreating glaciers, mountain goat sniping, and my personal favorite... eye popping-face melting-head splitting headaches.
Good stuff...
Might need to get used to it i suppose, i get a response after easter regarding my stay here in Norway for good.
After more than a decade trying to move out of Guatemala, this may be the very last step in my journey.
I will miss the adventure if things work out :) |
Sat, 04 Apr 2009 11:28:11 GMT i dislike getting sick |
I haven't felt this miserable in a good while.
I really don't know if my body is discovering the joys of spring pollen or what, but my head feels like it's cracking open. Trust me, its a pretty big crack.
I can't rest during sleep because i wake up as if been beaten to a pulp. And i spend the rest of the day with a very annoying headache that comes and goes.
Very low nasal goo, lots of sneezing, very dry sinuses. My God, i want out of this place right now x.x
Gonna down some more paracet and head back to bed, see you all on Monday :P |

About BattleStar Galactica...
Holly shit.
Ok, where to start. I've watched it on and off since it started back in 2004, and yesterday i managed to catch up with it until the very last episode...
And i am absolutely thrilled on how well this TV series was made. It was a very well done drama, with HIGH overtones of extreme geek indulgences. And i think it's helping make sci-fi as a great medium to explore possibilities in story writing and/or character development.
Maybe, just maybe... the relaunch of star trek might be a good one, and i really want to see the movie. As in actually pay this time to go see it. As long as people keep demanding good products, there should be absolutely nothing to fear... I mean, the Batman franchise is a good example and now Battle Star Galactica can be safely added to the list, they turned out ok, right?
I just want to add that i loved the final episode of Galactica. The big space battle was nothing short of epic, loved the homages paid to the old series, the computer generated Cylon Centurions looked awesome, and terrifying. The plots along the duration of the series where thick like Texas Toast, and basically i believe it may be a new standard in show making. Or would like to think so anyway.
Plus, they used Jimi Hendrix right at the end, how fucking cool is that?
If you have a couple of free minutes, i would love to read your thoughts on this awesome series, kay?
kthx. |
Tue, 31 Mar 2009 13:16:20 GMT Sad: KDE on Windows is shit |
Tried installing kdewin on my laptop, just so i could run Amarok and kopete on windows, but it really is much of a hassle to even try.
amarok, unfortunately is plagued with bugs and problems, and for some reason the KDE installation doesn't recognize an existing mysql server working on localhost, and i really don't feel like trying to debug all this.
I feel quite sad, because there seems to be no way of making both parties work together, i dont know if it is because of M$'s or the KDE community.
And i do not have the time to go into the whole who's right drama.
only thing i may be able to do is wait until 9.04 of kubuntu, whipe this little beast clean and go linux.
Which will most likely happen.
Cheers! |
Fri, 27 Mar 2009 09:19:17 GMT mp3HD |
there is a new lossless compression format/codec for making mp3 files that require large bitrates. Aprox 500 - 900kbps rates (depending on genre) and apparently the compression ratio would be around 60% of a PCM wav file taken directly off an audio track. It may be a tad heavy for storing purposes, but the idea of better quality while sacrificing size, sounds rather good to me.
The guys at all4mp3.com have ben busy with this, which is rather good.
if you follow THIS LINK! you will be taken to the site and you can get the command line tools and plug in for winamp.
It's a rather neat package and lets you test how the new compression codec works.
I'll be doing just that after work.
Mind you there is a user agreement if you choose to copy the winamp plugin... i didnt' even bother with reading it. Legalese makes me sleepy. |

Mon, 16 Mar 2009 13:45:38 GMT I'll be darned... |
oeshar is having a birthday tomorrow ;) Welcome to the big THREE OH! mwahaha
i really hope you have a good day with Mrs. Gryphon, and umm... *ahem* have a good dinner ;)
I myself am looking forward to aprili 29th which is the date i return to my home country, and can't... wait let me rephrase, i CANNOT wait until i spend some time with her... and baby Jenni.
You'll think i'm a broken record of sorts but i cannot give enough praise to the DFX plugin for winamp. I've been listening non-stop to old recordings from the Skatalites and their recordings sound so crisp and remastered it is amazing that a real time plug in is able to do this.
Herb Man/Fugitive Dub is a good example, i need to do a before/after clip to show you guys how awesome this thing is.
About Songbird... it is a very awesome media player, i believe it's built with or above the firefox engine, because you can browse the web with it, plus it can interconnect with Flock and/or Firefox. It's really neat. If there was a DFX plugin for it i'd make the jump from winamp. Need to read more on the specs... i really should... nah, fuck it.
I know, i know, why load 50 gigs of songs into a winamp playlist? i like random mode a lot, and i dont feel like making a play list for every day of the week, there should be a service that kind of recommends stuff to play based on my last.fm profile. would make things a lot easier. Not that it isn't easy to begin with, but i just don't want to spend time making playlist or devote more time on music other than normalizing and equalizing the darn songs.
Anyway, on another topic, spent a rather uneventful weekend, had my fill of wine and bread, cleaned my room somewhat, and i still need to go get a BIG travel case to take all the shit i got here in oslo back to Guate, must do that this weekend.
I hope everyone is having a nice monday, and a big thank you to my new contact/friend: GrumpyBadger. I've been reading up on your health situation, and here at this bunker situated no less than 20 kilometers below ground waiting for the inevitable Zombie Apocalypse to happen, we wish that everything heals up and you're back to your designated post as zombie grub :3
May God have mercy on your souls! D: |

Thu, 12 Mar 2009 09:47:33 GMT Daft Punk Keyboard and Normalization part Deux |
First you need to check this out: Really damn cool Daft Punk thing
Thank you Digg, you just wasted 2 hours of my life, yet again.
And, the results of using mp3Gain over my music archive/library has been more than satisfactory, i ran about... 50 gigs of music thru it, so all the songs are normalized at 91dB [according to the program], and i am absolutely thrilled on how well it works.
I would have a number of songs that where so loud that they would make my Bose headphones crackle.
It would be a lot more noticeable when i would activate the DFX plug in for winamp.
I came across that plug in after i read something that hit home, a dude was mentioning that he always liked how analog recording worked better for music, it may have had a bit more of high fidelity, i'm really not well versed on this subject but, i do have to agree that analog systems tend to sound a lot better than digital systems.
And, continued to mention on how DFX would help giving his music archive that missing "oompf!" he liked about analog systems.
How did i came across DFX to begin with?
DivX player for windows. And DFX comes embedded and may be used for a total of 21 days, unless you register.
i noticed that the audio in said player wasn't flat anymore, it came out of the speakers with depth and a lot more texture than usual. I do have to say that watching The Hunt for Red October was a rather cool experience, and i'm planning on doing a movie run during the weekend given how much i enjoyed this DFX sound enhancer.
Back to winamp.... DFX is available to use with Windows Media Player, as far as i know it only runs on windows, so far. what the hell has WMP have to do with winamp? i don't know but i don't use WMP so i thought you might, and be interested in trying out DFX for your media player of choice.
Anyway, while playing the now normalized musics... i can equalize, with my profile of choice, and add the plugin as output, and voila! awesomeness making my ears bleed.
Have a good day :) |
Wed, 11 Mar 2009 17:21:10 GMT the normal.... normalizat... ugh, the volume experiment |
I've been running mp3Gain non stop since morning.
And the result has been more than satisfactory.
mp3Gain + DFX plugin for winamp make me feel great when i hear my stuff. I've been reducing the volume of the tracks to 91dB, enabling the equalizer and a bass-y preset for DFX and it sounds awesome on the headphones.
And this is for Shar who always bitches at me that i dont remember him.
Back in 2006, i got an ipod from him, and all the music in it, plus a couple Cd's where transfered and kept on a subfolder, that i caringly call :\Music\Shar\
Now, this is the cool part, every bit of jazz, electronica, etc etc etc goes in there neatly packed and saved in a folder per group, per album.
So yeah, i dont mention you much bud, but you're part of my daily life x)
so, thanks! :D
i hope i get to normalize the Shar folder tonight, and with that i'll have... about... 56% of my own music ready for my own personal use.
k, off to home.
BAI!!! :D |
Wed, 11 Mar 2009 10:34:54 GMT good thing... these backups... |
Well, after playing a while with the DFX plugin for winamp, and yet again enjoying the music i have in my library, i came to a conclussion.
LOL i came...
anyway, this library needs normalization/normalicing.... well you know, attempt that it has a normal level of volume...
Why i think the music industry fails at a sound engineering level? Easy, they cut costs by adding more volume to their tracks instead of equalizing properly; so when you try to equalize the songs, it actually distorts, which fucking sucks ass.
Gonna attempt to normalize a couple of folders at around... 91 dB, the normal is 89 on mp3Gain, will see how it goes.

Conveniently, i was listening to Simon & Garfunkel... good song... i'll go outside for a bit, not feeling too good.
Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone 'Neath the halo of a street lamp I turn my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never shared No one dared Disturb the sound of silence "Fools," said I, "you do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you" But my words like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells of silence And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming And the sign said "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls And tenement halls And whispered in the sound of silence |

Fri, 06 Mar 2009 15:27:44 GMT Metallica Troglodite figures out technology... |
9 years after being a vocal whiner against Napster, Lars Ulrich (i think that name means imbecile in norwegian slang) finally tries out P2P and apparently it gave him an insight into what technology is capable of.
Thanks Ulrich, i hope you get beer pong herpes after playing guitar hero with your retard band mates.
Metallica’s Lars Ulrich ‘Pirates’ His Own Album (via TorrentFreak) It’s been nearly nine years since Lars Ulrich became one of the most vocal opponents of Napster and the generation of file-sharers it spawned. Not one to speak about something he has no experience of, Ulrich has just admitted downloading his own album, Death Magnetic, and it was “bizarre”.
It's not bizarre... you idiot, is the simple realization that computers can do shit better than you always could. Including distribution of content.
And yeah, zero sympathy for Metallica, established 2000. HOOCH!
